3-Step Stainless Steel Polishing Process
Step 1 — Cutting
Pair the Red Airway Buffing Wheel with the Black Magic Cutting Compound Bar to remove oxidation, tarnishing, and heavier surface imperfections.
Recommended speed: approximately 3,000 RPM.
Step 2 — Coloring & Refining
Switch to the Pink Airway Buffing Wheel and use the Yellow Deluxe Polishing Compound to refine the surface and increase its luster.
Recommended speed: approximately 2,500 RPM.
Step 3 — Final Polish
Finish with the UBM (Unbleached Muslin) Airway Buffing Wheel paired with the Blue Rouge Polishing Compound to bring out a bright, refined finish.
Recommended speed: 1,800 RPM or below.
How to Use
Before beginning, make sure the buffing wheel is properly mounted and securely fastened to your bench grinder or angle grinder.
Safety flanges should always be used when mounting buffing wheels. They help secure the wheel and reduce the possibility of the center plate warping during use.
Prime your Airway buffing wheel with the appropriate polishing compound before beginning each stage. A buffing wheel rake can also be used to prepare the wheel and remove accumulated compound when necessary.
Work through the three polishing stages progressively, allowing each step to refine the finish before moving to the next compound and wheel.
Pro Tips
Safety First: Metal polishing creates airborne particles. Renegade recommends using appropriate respiratory protection, along with gloves and other suitable personal protective equipment.
Do not rush through the polishing stages. The cutting stage establishes the foundation, the coloring stage refines the surface, and the final polishing stage produces the highest level of shine.
